Make It into a top university: Hussain’s story

7 November 2022

If getting into university is your goal, you can make it a reality at Coleg Gwent!

Many of our students go on to study at top Sutton Trust and Russell Group universities in the UK. So, if you want to study at a great university close to home, or you dream of getting into the famous Ox-Bridge, you can make it happen here.

College isn’t just for vocational courses and apprenticeships, but it’s also a fantastic place to study A Levels, where you can get the grades you need to make it to university. With award-winning teaching and state-of-the-art facilities, plus a multitude of extracurricular opportunities and experiences, over 80% of our A Level students go onto higher education at university or at Coleg Gwent

With our fantastic 100% pass rate in 45 A level subjects in 2022, A Levels are the most traditional route into university. But they’re not your only option. Did you know that our BTECs and level 3 vocational courses also attract UCAS points and are accepted for entry to universities across the UK too? So, if you prefer a hands-on learning style, college is still a great option to get the grades you need for your university application.

So, whether you want to make it as a vet, a barrister, a surgeon, or an engineer; discover the right course for you to make it to university with Coleg Gwent.

Choose your A Levels

Launchpad for success

Hussain made it to Cambridge University to study Aerospace Engineering after studying A Levels at Crosskeys Campus. He chose Coleg Gwent for our great reputation for A Levels, and achieved three A* grades in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Find out how Coleg Gwent was a launch pad for Hussain’s success:

“I’d been out of education for a number of years before I started college. So, I was worried about whether I’d fit in and be able to keep up with the intensity of A-levels, compared to someone who has just completed their GCSEs. But the tutorial system helped me fit right in and keep on top of my work.

The college also gave me free access to all the course notes and additional resources online. This was pivotal for me, as most of my learning and revision was done outside of class time. The environment was calm and laidback too, but it was focused when it needed to be, which I personally liked a lot and was able to thrive.

Going to Coleg Gwent was one of the best decisions of my life! The support and respect from the teachers is unparalleled; the facilities are amazing; and the people you meet are extraordinary. Most people are not aware, but there are many other courses aside from A-levels and BTECs available at the college, including higher-level programmes like HNDs and HNCs. So, it’s not just a place for the academically elite, but for people of all different abilities.

My goal is to one day enter the aerospace engineering industry to work in space flight and orbital mechanics, and to hopefully contribute to major research there. The college has helped by providing me with the education and qualifications I require to pursue this career and I’ve developed loads of skills alongside my A Levels too, such as time management, teamwork, and interaction skills.”
