Automotive

Do you have a passion for cars and want to work in the motor vehicle or motorsport industry?

With over 38 million vehicles in the UK, the automotive sector is a fast-paced place to work.

We rely on our cars to get us from A to B, but we also rely on vehicle technicians to fix things when they go wrong. So, a motor vehicle course at Coleg Gwent could be the start of an exciting journey for you. You’ll gain technical knowledge and develop mechanical skills to work on real cars, including electric vehicles, hybrids, petrol, diesel, and even the Coleg Gwent race car!

Whether you get excited by classic cars, motorbikes, or Formula 1, there are lots of career options when it comes to working with motor vehicles, including:

  • Automotive engineer
  • Manager
  • Car mechanic
  • Fitter
  • Technician
  • Vehicle Painter
  • Vehicle Body Repairer
  • Motorsport Engineer
  • Race Engineer

Through our level 1, 2, and 3 motor vehicle courses, you’ll learn practical skills in our vehicle workshops using industry-standard equipment and a fleet of electric vehicles, including a brand-new Tesla and VW Golf. We have one of the only specialist spraying booths in Wales, plus body repair and engineering workshops. So, one of the leading automotive training providers with an Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) centre in South Wales, you’ll develop the specialist skills and knowledge you need to be geared up for the future of the industry.

After completing your motor vehicle or motorsport course at Coleg Gwent, you’ll be able to step out into the world of work with confidence, or specialise through further training. So, come and join us to get the wheels in motion for your career in the motor vehicle industry!

I’ve never worked on cars before, so I was nervous coming to college. But I’d recommend Coleg Gwent to anyone wanting to do automotive engineering as I’ve learnt so much in the space of a year. The facilities here are the standard you’d find at most garages, with lots of cars to practice on.
