WorldSkills UK results are in - Coleg Gwent learners win gold yet again

29 November 2021

It’s been another fantastic year of WorldSkills UK competitions and results for Team Wales, with Coleg Gwent learners winning Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended across a range of skills competitions!

The finals of WorldSkills UK competitions 2021 took place throughout November, with students and apprentices from across the country competing in a range of skills-based disciplines from woodwork to restaurant service, and ICT to hairdressing.

Over 400 competitors from across the UK battled to be crowned ‘skills champion’ in their specialist areas, with a total of 29 learners from Coleg Gwent reaching the finals. The learners demonstrated their skills and knowledge in competitions up and down the country, with multiple finals taking place at Coleg Gwent campuses in recent weeks.

The results were aired during a live awards ceremony on Friday 26th November in Channel 4’s Packed Lunch programme with Steph McGovern, and we’re proud to announce that our learners won a total of 13 medals, reaffirming Coleg Gwent’s position in the top ten colleges across the UK for skills training.

Ben Blackledge, Deputy CEO of WorldSkills UK, commented: “These young people are a real inspiration. They are an example to us all and should be celebrated. To have excelled after such a difficult year shows that their dedication and skills are truly excellent. Skills are the lifeblood of every economy, creating high quality jobs, rewarding careers, and our competitions are proof that there is amazing talent in every part of the UK.”
