Tutors triumph in the South Wales Argus School and Education Awards 2022

14 April 2022

Our inspirational tutors have done it again! Thanks to their dedication and commitment to teaching the subjects they’re passionate about, seven Coleg Gwent tutors were nominated for a range of accolades in the South Wales Argus School and Education Awards 2022.

We’re proud of all our tutors who were nominated this year, but special congratulations go to Peter Britton – Further Education Lecturer of the Year, and Jacqui Spiller – Welsh Medium Teacher of the Year, for their well-deserved wins in the South Wales Argus School and Education Awards 2022.

Peter Britton – Further Education Lecturer of the Year

The FE Lecturer of the Year award recognises Peter for his work in inspiring and engaging students to reach their full potential.

Peter Britton has been a photography lecturer for 15 years, bringing his real-world experience and enthusiasm for photography to the forefront of his teaching. Having worked in wedding and commercial photography for renowned brands including McLaren Automotive, Porsche, Harrods, Hard Rock Café, and Rip Curl, he uses his experience and passion for photography to teach processes old and new, ensuring learners understand topics along the way.

Peter offers learners some fantastic opportunities to gain practical experience in photography during their studies, from food photography to studio photoshoots.

Jacqui Spiller – Welsh Medium Teacher of the Year

As winner of the Welsh Medium Teacher of the Year award, Jacqui has been recognised for inspiring and engaging pupils in learning the Welsh language.

Jacqui Spiller has been a tutor at Learn Welsh Gwent at Coleg Gwent for more than 15 years. She shows her passion, commitment and enthusiasm for the subject, teaching Welsh to learners of all levels from beginner to advanced. Jacqui makes lessons fun and interactive, understanding the challenges of learning Welsh as an adult learner, having learnt the language as an adult herself.

She’s recently taught Welsh to a group of asylum seekers and refugees living in Newport, helping them integrate into our multi-cultural local community and sharing her drive and passion for the Welsh language.
