Introducing our new Charity of the Year - Tŷ Hafan

1 June 2023

We’re thrilled to announce our new Charity of the Year for 2023-2024 is Tŷ Hafan.

Tŷ Hafan is a leading Welsh children’s charity that provides comfort, care and fun to children with life-limiting conditions, and their families. Every year the charity take care of over 300 children while supporting their families.

Through its vibrant hospice and diverse community programmes, Tŷ Hafan offers families short-break care helping them make the most of the time they have together; creating precious memories and ensuring a short life is a full life.

At Coleg Gwent, we’re committed to giving back to our community, and this partnership allows us to do that. Once again, this year, we’re setting an ambitious target of £10,000 to raise by August 2024.

Why Tŷ Hafan?

To make its free services available to patients and their families when they need it most, Tŷ Hafan need to raise £5.2 million pounds every year, with just a small percentage given by Welsh Government.

The charity’s services to Welsh children and their families are dependent on the commitment of its supporters. We’re proud to support Tŷ Hafan as our Charity of the Year, to help raise awareness of the hospice’s work and contribute essential funds to keep up its ongoing efforts.

  1. As a college, we offer a range of Health and Care courses, and we’re proud to educate the healthcare providers of the future who might go on to work at a hospice like Tŷ Hafan.
  2. We feel passionately about raising the profile of hospice care among our younger generation of learners who might not know about the wonderful services that hospices provide.
  3. We want to give back to our community in a real and tangible way, by supporting a local charity that serves our community.
  4. As an organisation that’s central to our communities, we hope to set an example by taking our Corporate Social Responsibility seriously and making a difference where we can.
  5. The hospice’s vital fundraising events not only encourage engagement and participation, but they also reach right into the heart of our community and contribute to a positive organisational culture.

Fundraising events

To kick off this year’s calendar of events, we’re sponsoring the Mic Morris Torfaen 10k, taking place on Sunday, 16 July 2023.

There will be several other fundraising events taking place over the next 12 months and we’ll be encouraging our staff and learners to take part to help raise funds for the hospice.

We’re so excited to partner with Tŷ Hafan and want to thank everyone for taking the time to vote for their charity of choice.
