This Foundation Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and competence requirements to work at semi-skilled or qualified operator level (Level 2) or craft or technician level (Level 3) as appropriate.
They allow the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with essential and personal skills, required for their immediate job and future career.
The framework has been designed to address the skills gaps and shortages and address an ageing workforce, by attracting young people into the engineering industry and providing them with the skills, knowledge and experience which employers are seeking.
Course content
Technical training is provided in the college 1 day per week, including time in practical workshops.
Completion of a portfolio of evidence
Work-based observations
Theory-based tasks and tests
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs Grade D or above, to include Maths, English (or Welsh as a first language) and Science; or
A suitable level 1 diploma and GCSE Grade D or above in Maths and English (or Welsh as a first language)
Additional information
A Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering is completed in the workplace. The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations is completed part-time at the College.
