Coleg Gwent is an excellent learning environment for your child

29 March 2018

Coleg Gwent is one of the largest and most successful colleges in Wales.

If your child is at the difficult crossroads of choosing a path for their future, we offer more than qualifications and as much support as they would receive in school.

Your child’s wellbeing is our priority.

Every student has their own personal tutor to support them and we also offer specialist careers advice, pastoral support including a counsellor at each Campus and Learning Skills Coaches.

Our choice of courses is varied with a total of 34 A Level subjects on offer from graphic design to philosophy and full and part-time vocational courses ranging from tourism, and agriculture to aeronautical engineering, and music technology.

In 2017, our A Level pass rates were above the UK and Wales averages with an overall pass rate of 99%.

Our Crosskeys Campus students had an overall pass rate of more than 99% with 30 subjects at the Campus having a 100% pass rate. While our Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone Campus in Ebbw Vale achieved a 99.03% overall pass rate, with 25 subjects on offer also having a 100% pass rate.

We also nurture our more able and talented young people by being part of the Seren Network, a network of regional hubs designed to support Wales’ brightest students achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge.

We are proud to offer vocational routes to suit all ambitions from a City & Guilds in Hair and Beauty to an AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting. The value of diplomas is accepted in both the workplace and higher education, with an extended Level 3 diploma being the equivalent of three A Levels providing the necessary UCAS points for entry to university.

Students on our vocational courses are encouraged to take part in WorldSkills, a national skills competition scheme which offers the chance to compete against peers on a local, national and international level. For example, 19-year-old Thomas Seward, one of our apprentices studying Electrical Installation, has been selected to potentially represent the UK in Kazan, Russia in 2019.

With a firm focus on the employability of our students, we have been approved as a member of the UK-wide Career Colleges Trust. The innovative concept brings together employers and FE colleges to design and support a curriculum with clear pathways to careers in the industry it serves.

We are committed to developing confident and resilient young people, so alongside their course, students can get involved in sport, enterprise activities and volunteering opportunities, equipping them with life and work skills, as well as helping them meet new people. It also looks great on their CV or UCAS application for university.

At Coleg Gwent, we help you and your child to consider all options, offering choice, support and a learning environment that brings out the best in them.
