CompTIA are a vendor-neutral, independent source of information on a wide range of technology topics, including cybersecurity; education, training and certification of the global tech workforce; new and emerging technologies; legislation and policies affecting the industry and workforce data, development and trends.
This course will help you to decide if a career in IT is the right choice for you, while helping you to develop a broader understanding of the sector, making it ideal for non-technical professionals.
This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

Course content
This course is delivered by virtual classroom. Virtual classrooms are equivalent to face-to-face classroom courses, but delivered in an online environment.
Course Duration: 3 days
The CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ course provides fundamental, basic IT skills and knowledge, and creates an entry point into further, more advanced, CompTIA certifications such as A+, Network+ and Security+.
Throughout the course you will cover the following topics:
- IT Concepts & Terminology
- Infrastructure
- Applications & Software
- Software Development
- Database Fundamentals
- Security
Entry Requirements
The CompTIA ITF+ certification has no formal prerequisites. However, some experience with using a keyboard and mouse would be helpful but is not essential.

The PLA programme intends to provide quality career advice and guidance to participants before, during and after their learning.
Prior to being enrolled onto your PLA funded course, a individual learning plan will be discussed with you to ensure that the right learning has been considered.
This will include a general discussion on the following topics:
- formal education or qualifications in related fields
- prior experience within the industry or field
- career aspirations
- dedication of time required
- access to internet, windows computer and webcam/microphone
This will also include specific discussion on the below areas for this course:
- any prior experience with navigating a computer – e.g. mouse and keyboard skills
