Learning Centre

In the Learning Centre you’ll find everything you need to help you get ahead with your studies – learning resources, advice on your studies and a quiet place to work on your assignments.


Resources - Books associated with your course 

- A range of fiction books and DVDs

- Daily newspapers 

- A variety of magazines and journals 

- A selection of eBooks that you can also access from home PCs with internet access, word processing, spreadsheets, database and graphics software, and DVD drives 

- Wi-Fi so you can use your own laptop or tablet device

 

Online catalogue- You can search for resources held at any Coleg Gwent campus from the comfort of your own home with our online catalogue. You can also reserve materials and arrange for them to be delivered to your campus.

- The catalogue also allows you to track what materials you’ve borrowed in the past, if you need to borrow them again for another assignment.

- You’ll be shown how to do all of this once you’ve enrolled.

 

Learning Advisors Based in the Learning Centres, Learning Advisors can support you in a number of ways, including:

- Helping to access resources – either in the LRC or online

- Helping with study skills, such as understanding assignments, searching for information and planning your work

- Providing study skills workshops such as time management, note taking and referencing

- Providing individual and group support

- Producing 'How to' guides to help you with your course

 

Office 365This year we’re providing all learners with access to Microsoft Office 365, an online version of Microsoft Office. You’ll be able to access applications like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint on any device with an internet connection. Other benefits of using Office 365 include;

- A terabyte of online storage through Microsoft OneDrive

- An email account with a 50Gb mailboxOnline web-based versions of Microsoft Office applications to use on your mobile device

- Ability to download full versions of Microsoft Office Professional to your personal device

 

Reprographics servicesYou can access a range of services in the Learning Centre to help with presenting your work.  This includes:

- Printing

- Photocopying

- Binding

- Laminating
