Course Overview
The BCS Essentials Certificate in Artificial Intelligence provides a practical introduction to artificial intelligence and its growing role within modern organisations.
Designed for learners with little or no previous experience with AI, this one-day course introduces the key concepts, technologies, and terminology associated with artificial intelligence in a clear, accessible way.
… anyone over 19, living in Wales and in employment. The usual salary limit of £35,796 does not apply for this course.

One day of instructor-led training delivered by NILC’s experienced trainers, covering:
- Introduction to AI in the real world
- Where AI adds value, and where it creates risk
- How AI works
- Responsible and trustworthy AI
- Governance and making AI work in organisations
- Applying AI in practice
- The future of humans and AI working together
No prior experience of AI or programming is required.
This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).
The PLA programme intends to provide quality career advice and guidance to participants before, during and after their learning.
Prior to being enrolled onto your PLA funded course, an individual learning plan will be discussed with you to ensure that the right learning has been considered.
This will include a general discussion on the following topics:
- formal education or qualifications in related fields
- prior experience within the industry or field
- career aspirations
- dedication of time required
- access to internet, windows computer and webcam/microphone
