Course Overview
The Progression in Plumbing course gives you a broad but in-depth insight into the work and skills of a plumber. This course will prepare you for a career as a plumber in the construction industry.

The Progression in plumbing Studies course offers you the chance to develop your skills and knowledge to a high standard recognised by the industry.
You’ll learn how to deal with leaky pipes, water systems and drainage in our well-equipped workshops.
You’ll cover a range of units during the course, including:
- Scientific principles for domestic, industrial and commercial plumbing
- Cold water systems
- Domestic hot water systems
- Central heating systems
- Drainage systems
The course is delivered by both practical sessions in excellent workshop facilities and theory lessons to underpin the knowledge learnt in the practical sessions.
You’ll be assessed through practical projects, written and online tests and, once complete, you’ll achieve:
- EAL Level 2 Progression in Plumbing Studies
- Skills Activities
- Maths and English
- Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set
To enter the course, you’ll need a City and Guilds Level 2 Foundation in Plumbing and, either GCSE Maths/Maths Numeracy, or English/Welsh First Language Grade C or above
You need to have a desire to work in the construction industry. Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and there’s an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.
After completing the Progression in Plumbing Studies course, you can progress your skills further with an apprenticeship at Level 3, or a Gas Foundation course, or Level 3 Contruction and the Built Environment or Level 3 Civil Engineering
Level 2 (Foundation) in Plumbing Studies, Core Units from Construction Level 2 and either GCSE Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh First Language grade C or above.
You’ll need to purchase appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at an approximate cost of £40.00, as well as your own stationery equipment.
