Coleg Gwent celebrates Class of 2026

Students at Coleg Gwent – one of Wales’s largest further education colleges – are collecting BTEC, AS and A-Level results at the college’s campuses today (13 August).

98.3% of students at the college achieved A*-E A-level grades, while 1114 of BTEC students achieved a pass grade or higher across 11 different vocational subject areas.

These results mark the beginning of many exciting new chapters, with learners progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment and further study across Wales and beyond.

Among them is Chase Campbell from Crosskeys whose exceptional A-level grades, A*AB, have earned him a place to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics with a Foundation Year at Oxford University.

Chase, an impactful member of the Welsh Youth Parliament for Blaenau Gwent said: “The support I’ve received from everyone at Coleg Gwent has been incredible. My tutors have always encouraged me to challenge myself and aim higher and I genuinely don’t think I’d be where I am today without them. I’m really excited to begin my next chapter at Oxford University.”

Lauren Cahalane, another learner celebrating at Torfaen Learning Zone, excelled in A-level Psychology all while facing numerous health issues for much of her academic journey.

Lauren said: “There were moments when I wasn’t sure how the year would turn out, so I’m incredibly proud to be celebrating these results today. It’s been a challenging journey, but I’ve learned that determination and resilience can take you further than you think. I’m really looking forward to starting the next stage of my education in September.”

In addition to the A-level success being celebrated at Coleg Gwent, mature student Sophie Drew has exceeded expectations in her Level 3 Access to Higher Education in Humanities and Social Sciences. Sophie, who works part time alongside her studies, has overcome her longstanding lack of confidence in numeracy.

Meanwhile, Amelia Stubbs, an aspiring adult nurse, secured A*A*A* in her Level 3 Extended Diploma, Health and Social Care principles and contexts. She said: “I’m so excited to be following in the footsteps of both my mum and my nan by hopefully becoming a nurse one day. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, so getting these results means everything to me.

She continued: “It’s been two years of hard work, and I’m so proud to have reached this point. I can’t wait to take the next step towards my career and start making a difference to people’s lives.”

“Level 3 Results Day is always one of the highlights of the year because it’s an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of all our Level 3 learners. We’ve seen them grow in confidence, discover their strengths and take important steps towards exciting futures, with the support and encouragement of our dedicated staff.”
