Course Overview

Coleg Gwent is offering a brand new and exciting fast-track into Nursing bridging course; developed in collaboration with University of South Wales, the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and the Royal College of Nursing Wales to support existing level 3 candidates to progress to Undergraduate Degrees in Nursing after intensive study over 20 weeks.

…Anyone with an existing level 3 Diploma qualification in a related subject who aspire to progress to a Degree in Nursing.

…Anyone currently employed as Health Care Support workers may apply and remain in their current role alongside the course.

…Motivated and proactive individuals who are committed to succeed on this intensive, challenging but very rewarding course.

You will attend college for 1 day per week and USW (University of South Wales) 1 day per month and for the remaining 4 days you will be a salaried staff member of the ABUHB as a Health Care Support Worker with flexibility and choice of your work location.

This course will support you to evidence the required skills and knowledge from class-based learning and clinical practice. It will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate that you understand the importance of the role of Health Care Assistants and person-centered care, inclusion and professional reflection.

You will study a variety of units including:

  • Communication skills for use in Health Care settings
  • Health and Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Infection control

Candidates will already hold a level 3 Diploma in a related subject (for example, Agored Access Diploma or a BTEC National Diploma or WJEC Principles and Context in related subjects such as Health & Social Care Nursing, Health Care or Science).

Candidates will normally hold a GCSE in Math and English or Welsh first language at C or above or equivalent at least level 2 and ideally have studied a science subject at least at level 2.

Learners will also need to successfully complete the Health Boards recruitment process and induction training which includes Occupational Health Assessment and DBS.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about the entry requirements.

Successful completion of the course and all its requirements will guarantee an interview to the undergraduate nursing programme at USW.

This programme is equivalent to 42 credits at level 3 and 15 at level 4 with completion of an expected reflective journal; and will carry with it UCAS points.
