Course Overview
This qualification allows learners to develop the knowledge and skills required for employment and/or career progression in childcare or health settings.

… You have aspirations to go onto a degree in a related discipline.
This is a two-year programme, typically 3 days on campus and 2 days in a work placement.
You will need to undertake a minimum of 700 hours on placement over the two-year period, whilst undertaking theoretical components in college.
Learners will undertake various assessments during placements, alongside internal and external assessments for theoretical components.
On completion of the course, you will achieve:
- Level 3 Children ‘s Care, Learning and Development, Core and Practice Theory
- L2 Core CCPLD
- Food Hygiene
- Paediatric First Aid
You will be expected to commit to 5 days of study, which includes both the teaching of the knowledge element of the qualifications in college and work placement days/blocks for the competency element of the qualifications.
Full commitment to attendance and professional behaviour is required.
Following completion of this course, you could consider Higher Education courses in related areas or employment in roles such as a child minder, nursery nurse or childcare worker.
For entry to this course, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English/Welsh First Language or an appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit Grade.
Progressing Level 2 learners will need to successfully complete CCPLD Level 2 programme and demonstrate engagement and progress in Skills (Literacy/Numeracy).
All learners must have a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check prior to starting this course (at their own cost).
DBS application must be carried out at Coleg Gwent.
