Course Overview
Crochet for beginners is exactly that – designed for beginners!
Keen creatives looking to learn a new skill or find a new creative hobby.
The introductory course will enable you to develop skills and confidence in the basic crochet stitches and techniques required to make simple garments and decorative items.
Using US crochet terms, on this course you will learn:
- chains
- single, double and treble crochet stitches
- how to read and follow crochet patterns
- crocheting in the round
- rows and turning
- increasing and decreasing stitches
Each session will be a two-hour duration and allow you the opportunity to practise the different stitches and produce a basic piece of work.
There are no formal entry requirements just an interest in the subject.
During week 1 you will be provided with chunky knit yarn and a 6mm crochet hook. The items below will be required for subsequent lessons and discussed during the sessions:
- Various size crochet hooks
- Double knit and chunky yarns in various materials
- Tapestry needle (or equivalent) for sewing projects/weaving in ends
A few more items may need to be purchased during the course.
