Course Overview

You’ll study a wide range of units, such as printmaking, ceramics, computers, digital imaging, photography, visual studies, fashion and textiles, historical and contextual studies, drawing, painting, 3D design and graphics.

This course is ideal if you’re interested in building skills and confidence across a range of disciplines with a view to pursuing a career in art and design later on. If you have some experience of art already, but you haven’t had the opportunity to fully explore your creative side, this course will help you do just that. It’s a real taster into many aspects of art and design and includes exciting and challenging projects.

You’ll also develop skills in communication, information technology, using numbers, planning and teamwork.

You’ll be assessed through practical based coursework and your work will be externally moderated. Upon completion, you’ll gain:

To enter this course, you’ll need a minimum of 4 GCSEs, Grade D or above, to include an Art or creative-based subject and either Maths/Maths Numeracy or English/Welsh First Language, or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area, to include either GCSE Maths/Maths Numeracy or Englis/Welsh 1st Language.

Full commitment to attendance is required, as well as respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation, creative ability and a desire to succeed.

A Level 3 Diploma in art and design and interactive media.

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above to include an Art or creative based subject and either Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh 1st Language; or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area to include either GCSE Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh 1st Language.

You’ll need to purchase sketch books, painting and drawing materials. Trip fees for gallery visits and events may also be payable throughout the year.
