In a nutshell

This is a highly practical course, led by professionally trained lecturers and associate teachers aimed at developing skills required to become a triple threat performer. You will complete the course with a repertoire of application material suitable for HE or conservatoire study, as well as relevant academic and research skills at a level 3 standard. Skills will be developed in each of the disciplines with targeted work in the areas you are most in need of development.

Our programme of extra curricular engagements as well as trips overseas and throughout the UK is unrivalled, with a vibrant and diverse programme in place already for the next academic year. What will I be doing?

This course is suitable for learners who are progressing from attainment at GCSE level, or from a relevant Level 2 course who enjoy:

  • Acting for stage and screen
  • Dance - Jazz & Ballet
  • Singing - Ensemble & Solo Support
  • Musical Theatre Performance
  • Devising theatre
  • Production
  • Attending live theatre and musicals
  • Audition prep
  • Self-tape

Assignments are practically based, with written work underpinning the skills being developed as a performing arts student. Research into current, historical topics and practitioners will help shape your devised and directed performances.

You’ll take part in a variety of performances during the year as part of your course such as:

  • Plays (Showcases)
  • Screenings (Musicals)
  • Devised pieces
  • A range of extra curricular performance troupe engagements

Facilities include a dedicated theatre space, drama studio, dance studio and rehearsal space. Students regularly take part in trips to see performances, workshops and speakers. This course is continually assessed through practical and written assignments, presentations, performances and portfolios of work. On completion you’ll achieve:

  • Level 3 Performing Arts Musical Theatre

  • Maths and English
  • Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set

What is expected of me?

To qualify for this course, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include either Maths/Maths Numeracy or English/Welsh First Language, or appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit Grade with GCSEs, to include either Maths/Maths Numeracy or English/Welsh First Language at Grade C or above.

A keen interest in performing arts and a willingness to practise and rehearse outside college times is essential. Full commitment to attendance is required, along with respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation, creative ability and a desire to succeed.

What comes next?

Successful completion of the Year 1 90-credit Diploma will allow learners to progress on to the second year and complete the full Extended Diploma.

From there, progression routes include:

  • Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance
  • Degree courses in Drama, Dance and Musical Theatre at Universities or Conservatoires
  • Employment/Apprenticeship opportunities in the creative industries
