Supporting you

We have plenty of support services on offer, whether you need assistance with proof reading your work, accessibility support or extra sessions to assist with assignments, we’re here to help!

Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

If you have a registered learning difficulty and/or a disability, you should include this information – along with supporting evidence – as part of your Student Finance Wales or Student Finance England application for funding and support.

For most Higher Education learners, diagnosed support is funded through Student Finance and delivered by external professionals. We can help you with your application and provide advice and guidance if you need it.

If you need support, speak to your tutor, contact your campus Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo), or get in touch with the CG Support Team.

Support arrangements may include:

  • In-class support
  • Extra sessions to help with assignments and coursework
  • Help from a Communication Support Worker (for deaf students)
  • Dyslexia support
  • Use of accessibility software including initial training
  • Exam access arrangements

Tutors

As a higher education learner you’ll receive individual support from your tutor from the moment you join Coleg Gwent.

You will have regular tutorials and your tutor will closely monitor your progress and support you through your studies at college.

Your tutor will help you settle into college, guide you through your course, offer support through any difficult times and celebrate successes.

Academic and Pastoral Support

On each campus, support for Higher Education learners is provided through your course tutor and the CG Support Team.

We’re here to help you throughout your programme of study and can guide you to the right people if you need additional support.

If you’re unsure who to speak to, your tutor is always a good first point of contact.

Support may include:

  • Study skills support
  • Academic guidance
  • Help with attendance concerns
  • Advice around finance and funding
  • Support with managing stress and wellbeing
