Course Overview
This Higher National Certificate (HNC) level course is the first year of a two year programme. It will develop your creativity, technical expertise and professional confidence as you prepare for a career in the exciting world of make-up artistry. This industry-focused programme combines practical workshops, live projects and professional portfolio development to equip you with the skills required for careers in film, television, theatre, fashion, editorial and special effects make-up.

Module 1: Concept and Development (85 Credits)
Explore the creative and technical foundations of professional make-up artistry through a series of exciting practical projects. You will develop specialist skills in fashion and editorial make-up, period hair and wigs, special effects, prosthetics and body art while researching influential artists and industry trends.
Throughout the module you will build a professional portfolio, experiment with creative techniques and develop the practical, technical and professional skills expected within the creative industries.

- Period Hair, Wig Styling and Postiche
- Body Painting Techniques
- Creative Concept Development
- Industry Skills – Bald caps, Tattoo Covering, Out the Kit SFX
- Professional Portfolio Development
- Personal Branding and Employability
Module 2: Creative Project (35 Credits)
Working both independently and collaboratively, you will research, design, develop and produce an original body art concept before presenting your work as part of the End of Year Creative Showcase.
This module reflects professional industry practice, allowing you to demonstrate your creativity, technical expertise and project management skills while building a portfolio suitable for employment or further study.
To enter this course, you’ll need 4 GCSEs A*- C including English and Art, a Level 3 qualification in Theatrical and Media Make Up (minimum vocational merit profile) or equivalent industrial experience.
Dedicated, creative and inspirational attributes in a learner will be expected.

4 GCSEs A*- C including English and Art, a Level 3 qualification in Theatrical and Media Make Up (minimum vocational merit profile) or equivalent industrial experience.
You’ll be expected to purchase a uniform and a wig kit which will cost approximately £250
There may be other costs linked to travel and accommodation for Masterclass training.
