Course Overview

The Painting & Decorating element of the course covers surface preparation and applying paint systems by brush & roller. Although the course is mainly aimed at Painting & Decorating you will also cove a Unit in Wood Occupations.

You are creative and willing to learn a trade that is skilled and rewarding. The Units you will study are:-

  • Unit 101: Introduction to the built environment
  • Unit 102: Introduction to the trades in the construction and built environment sector
  • Unit 103: Introduction to the built environment life cycle
  • Unit 104 Employability in the construction and built environment sector
  • Unit 105: Protecting health, safety and the environment when working in the construction and built environment sector
  • Unit 106: Introduction to emerging technologies in construction and the built environment sector
  • Unit 108: Wood occupations
  • Unit 110: Decorative finishing and industrial painting occupations

This course is ideal for anyone looking for an introduction to the painting & decorating industry who wishes to undertake a course which will act as a pathway to further studies in this area. It will give you the opportunity to pick up some core skills and knowledge, along with the opportunity to progress onto our Progression Level painting & decorating qualification.

The course is delivered by both practical sessions with excellent workshop facilities and theory lessons to underpin the knowledge learnt in the practical sessions and will include a module in a second trade.

You’ll be assessed through practical projects, written and online tests. Once complete, you’ll achieve:

  • Diploma in Foundation Level Painting & Decorating
  • Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry
  • Skills Activities
  • Maths and English

You need to have a desire to work in the construction industry. Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.

Progression Level or employment.

To enter the course, you’ll need a minimum of 4 GCSEs, Grade D or above, to include Maths/Maths Numeracy and English/Welsh First Language or an appropriate Entry Level qualification.

You’ll need to undertake a construction industry assessment to help determine the most appropriate course.
