Course Overview
On this course you will develop practical accountancy skills in the double-entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes while gaining an understanding that digital accounting systems are automating some of the stages in the process.
This course will cover transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers and calculate sales invoices and credit notes.
you want an industry recognised qualification and is ideal for beginners looking to start a career in finance or for small business owners managing their own finances.
This is an AAT Qualification and you will be learning the practical, foundation skills needed to manage a business’s daily financial records. In particular you will:
- understand how to set up bookkeeping systems.
- process customer transactions
- process supplier transactions
- process receipts and payments
- process transactions into the ledger accounts
- use control accounts
- reconcile a bank statement with the cash book
- use the Journal
- produce trial balances
You will also study for other qualifications that will enhance your employability skills with an accounting / finance career.
On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the AAT Level 2 Accounting or AAT Level 3 Bookkeeping

Junior Accountant
It is essential that you have a D or above in Maths and English.
To study and AAT course you need to register with the AAT as a student. The college will pay for your registration. You will also need to enrol with the college.
You will need to purchase workbooks and the cost of these will be shared with you on enrolment.
