Foundation courses at Coleg Gwent support young people aged 16 to 18 who may be returning to education, need additional support, or have yet to find the right learning environment.
Ideal for students with no previous qualifications, the programme helps break down barriers to learning, build confidence and take manageable steps towards further study or future opportunities

Foundation courses combine vocational tasters, Essential Skills and enrichment opportunities to help learners find the right fit and ignite a passion for learning. These tasters give learners the chance to try new areas, discover strengths and before making decisions about their next step within their learner journey.

Foundation courses are designed to give learners the momentum needed to progress and on successful completion, learners can move on to one of the following:
- Level 1 vocational courses at Coleg Gwent
- Apprenticeship pathways
- Further education, training or employment
Learners are supported throughout the course to choose the progression route that best suits their interests and goals.
