Course Overview
You will learn about about human anatomy and physiology, community health issues, healthcare law and ethics and develop a range of practical skills for use in community health and wellbeing. You will improve your general communication, team working, time management and IT skills so that you are able to work in a range of settings.
This course is specifically designed for a career in public health or social care management or to support you to potentially progress onto a health course at university such as nursing, midwifery and paramedic science.

During the academic year you will complete modules including:
- Investigating Health and Wellbeing
- Law, Ethics and Policy
- Professional Development 1
- Human Health and Disease
- Study Skills for Higher Education
Methods of assessment whilst you are on the programme:
Assessment methods that you will engage with during your time studying with us include report writing, presentations, developing academic posters, reflective writing, work-based portfolios, literature reviews, analysing complex cases and managing change. Other methods used are essays, MCQ tests, presentations, poster presentations, assessment centre tests, exams and group work.
Following successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education at Level 4.
You can potentially apply for a nursing or a healthcare degree (subject to fulfilling any additional entry requirements for the chosen course) or progress onto a year two of our Foundation Degree in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care Management, which is offered at our Torfaen learning Zone (Cwmbran).
Alternatively, following this programme you could go on to employment in a range of healthcare organisations, such as the NHS, community health projects, private sector, rehabilitation work or social care. You can also apply for other health-related courses such as nursing, midwifery and social care, social work and public health.
You would usually need at least one of the following:

Access to HE where you have achieved a Pass Diploma with 45 Passes
Plus:
GCSE passes in three subjects at grade C or above to include Maths and English Language (or equivalent).
Please also note that applications to the course will be considered on an individual basis. Typical entry requirements are detailed above but if you don’t meet these criteria, then your work and life experience will be taken into consideration.

You may require books from a reading list, however you will be encouraged to use the library and online resources.
