Course Overview

By studying this course you’ll learn to show how ideas, feelings and meanings can be conveyed within the different areas of Media.

Media continues to be a desirable option for students wishing to pursue a ‘traditional’ creative career, within film, TV, radio or journalism. However, the internet has seen an explosion of exciting new roles emerge.

You’ll explore a variety of relevant ideas and resources relating to media and film and produce practical responses to them, demonstrating an understanding of different styles, genres and traditions. You’ll underpin your project work with your website,and there’ll be an emphasis on filming/ editing and media production.

Tutors are current and relevant as they continue to work in their own specialist areas and it is this professional ethos and vocational experience that’ll make all the difference to your studies.

You’ll also develop skills in communication and information technology using numbers, planning and teamwork.

Media modules include:

  • Documentary Film
  • Scripted Film
  • Experimental Film
  • Animation
  • Audio

You’ll be assessed through the completion of coursework.

Upon completion of the 2 year course, you’ll gain:

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media
  • Appropriate supporting activities to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry
  • Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification
  • Skills Activities
  • Maths and English

To enter the course, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade C or above to include Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh 1st Language

OR

An appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit grade with GCSE Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh 1st Language at Grade C or above.

On completion of this course, you can progress onto higher education or into work in industries such as TV and Film, Photography, Journalism and Advertising.

Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade C or above to include Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh 1st Language, or appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit grade with GCSE Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh 1st Language at Grade C or above.
