Course Overview
This course introduces you to a vairety of skills required by the creative industries and will allow you to ehance your creative skillset for your desired creative pathway within media.

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to work in a creative job involving technology and to progress to a Level 3 course in a related subject area (e.g. creative media, games design, art & design or photography).
You’ll build your understanding and practical abilities in a variety of processes and software and will complete a range of practical assignments. You’ll work independently and as a part of a team for practical assignments.
You’ll have access to the latest PC’s, Apple Mac computers and Adobe Creative Cloud software, along with excellent up-to-date facilities.
You’ll be assessed through research and analysis, written work, creative design, use of technology, problem solving, and evaluation. Upon completion, you’ll gain:
- OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media Level 2
- Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry
- Skills Activities
- Maths and English
You should be able to develop creative ideas and be willing to actively explore a wide range of technological processes. Full commitment to attendance is required, as well as respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation and a passion for the subject. There is also an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework independently during your own time.
A range of Creative Level 3 Extended Diplomas, such as UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology (Metaverse Design) Level 3, BTEC Level 3 Creative Media Production, UAL Level 3 Photography.
Successful completion of Level 3 Extended Diploma would allow you to progress to higher education and university courses.
Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above to include either Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh first language; or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area with a Merit grade and include either GCSE Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh 1st Language.
As part of the entry requirements, you’ll be expected to attend a taster session.
At Newport you will be able to study in our state of the art media suite that includes:
- A green screen room for recording scenes for film and TV
- A drone for filming scences outside
- A sound room for recording music, sound effects and voiceovers
- 3 green screen booths for animation design and production
- A dedicated art space for drawing and product creation
- Camera for the duration of your course
You will also be offered a ‘You Choose’ assignment for you to tailor to your career aspirations around units such as (1 of the list below):
- Film and TV
- Comic Book
- Graphic Design
- Photography
- Game Design Concept Art and Assets
No exams but formal moderation for each assignment.
