Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D to include Maths, English and Science at grade D or above or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area to include to include Maths/Numeracy.

What will I be doing?

The course has a combination of practical and theoretical subjects You’ll learn by problem- solving and enjoying the challenges that you will be given throughout the course. The units are listed below:

  • Health & Safety
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Manufacturing Principles
  • Bench fitting
  • Turning
  • Hydraulics

You will be assessed through written and practical work, assignments and end of year exams. You will gain:

  • Level 2 Mechanical Engineering
  • Problem solving skills that will support you in your new career
  • Maths & English
  • Practical skills

What is expected of me?

  • 4 GCSEs grade D or above, to include Maths at grade C, English (or Welsh as a first language) and Science;

or

  • A suitable Level 1 Diploma and GCSE grade C or above in Maths and D English (or Welsh as a first language)

To be prepared for college you will need:

  • Scientific Calculator
  • Pens Pencils
  • Ruler / geometry set
  • Notepad
  • Folders/dividers

You will need to be hard working, punctual and have excellent timekeeping which are all skills employers are looking for.

  • Employment or an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with leading companies.

Additional information

You’ll need to purchase appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of £40.00, as well as supply your own stationery equipment.
