Entry Requirements
Successful completion of an Entry Level 3 course or a Level 1 award within a Motor Vehicle or Engineering programme.
4 GCSEs – 2 GCSEs at grade D (ideally Maths and English) and at least 2 GCSEs at D-G grades.
In a nutshell
This Level 1 course provides an introductory understanding of the automotive industry. It is ideal for learners who wish to progress onto the service, repair and maintenance of cars and light vehicles.
With successful completion it can potentially lead onto an Extended Diploma course in Motor Vehicle Engineering, Enhanced Engineering Programme or follow an apprenticeship in industry after further study.

What will I be doing?
The course is a combination of practical and theoretical elements.
You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. You will study units including:
- The Motor Vehicle Engineered World
- Electric Vehicle Principles
- Investigating vehicle systems
- Health and Safety in Motor Vehicle Engineering
- Engineering Maintenance
- Engineering Materials
- Electronic Circuit Design and Construction
- Interpreting and Using Service Information
- Mathematics and Science for Engineering
- Electrical and Mechanical Science for Engineering
You’ll be assessed through:
- Exams
- Coursework
- Assignments
- Portfolio
- Laboratory or practical assessment
On completion of the course you will achieve:
- Level 1 First Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering

- Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set

- Maths and English (Maths and English upskilling to a grade of C or above, will be integrated into teaching timetable)
What is expected of me?
Successful completion of an Entry Level 3 course or a Level 1 award within a Motor Vehicle or Engineering programme.

You’ll need to be:
- numerate, creative and have a keen interest in Automotive Engineering
