Get stuck into the world of mechanical engineering with this hands-on, practical course. You’ll build real skills in our workshops and learn the foundations of engineering, with a taste of welding too.

You’ll get stuck into practical workshop sessions where you’ll learn key engineering skills like fitting and assembly, using a manual lathe, and welding. You’ll also explore how engineering impacts the environment, build your understanding of maths and science in an engineering context, and develop core techniques used across the industry.
You’ll be assessed through hands-on tasks, online multiple choice tests, and short written answers. Alongside your main course, you’ll continue to work on your maths and English to support your progress into further study or the workplace.
Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above, to include Maths, English (or 1st language Welsh), and Science at grade D or above
or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area to include to include Maths.
- Progression to Level 3 Engineering
- Employment or an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with leading companies.
