Course Overview

Get stuck into the world of mechanical engineering with this hands-on, practical course. You’ll build real skills in our workshops and learn the foundations of engineering, with a taste of welding too.

…you enjoy learning by doing and want to develop real engineering skills in a workshop environment.

…you’re thinking about a future in engineering and want a strong foundation to progress to Level 3 or an apprenticeship.

…you’re curious about how things are made and want to understand the tools, techniques, and materials behind mechanical systems.

You’ll get stuck into practical workshop sessions where you’ll learn key engineering skills like fitting and assembly, using a manual lathe, and welding. You’ll also explore how engineering impacts the environment, build your understanding of maths and science in an engineering context, and develop core techniques used across the industry.

You’ll be assessed through hands-on tasks, online multiple choice tests, and short written answers. Alongside your main course, you’ll continue to work on your maths and English to support your progress into further study or the workplace.
