Course Overview
This course has been designed for anyone who is fascinated with how the world works. It is the first stepping stone into a career into:
Biomedical sciences/ Biology/AI/Rocketry/space science/ medical science/ neuroscience/pharmacy/ optometry and many more
…You share an interest in everything…it’s not just a theory. The world is connected by energy and passion. We look at the science that links the human body to chemical analysis, to the need to explore the universe around us, to colonise Mars.
There are three main parts to the course:
1. CSI Newport
A chance to use science to solve a crime! Police rely on science more and more. You will be given a realistic scenario (based on a true story) and using scientific techniques you will find out if Mr Jones died of natural causes or if foul play was involved. A chance to practice basic science skills whilst getting a taste of what it might be like to be a forensic scientist.
2. Body works
Our bodies are complicated biochemical machines, so how do they work? How do we move and how do we live? Body works gives a hands-on look into the biology and chemistry of being alive…pushing limits and breaking barriers.
3. Rocketry
You will have the chance to design and build your own rockets and let them fly. Learning about the science of space flight through the recent space missions.
No formal qualification just lots of enthusiasm.
You are expected to join in with all the practical activities which will include investigating a murder scene; exploring how the body works and making and flying rockets.
We will be giving out prizes through a range of competitions, testing your detective investigative skills through to the innovative design of your rocket.
