Course Overview
An apprenticeship in Electrical Installation is a 4 year course where you are employed by an electrician or construction company and attend college 1 day/week.
While on site with your employer you will be gaining skills and experience working on electrical installation jobs. At first, you will be doing low level jobs and helping qualified electricians to do their work; but over time, you will gain experience so that you can support your employer to install, maintain and repair electrical systems yourself. This can include power, heating, lighting, security systems and renewable energy technologies.
Technical training is provided in the college 1 day per week, including time in practical workshops.
You will study a variety of subject-specific modules, in addition to Literacy and Numeracy skills if required.
The programme is delivered through a blend of the following:
Practical sessions with excellent workshop facilities
Training in a realistic work environment
Theory lessons in well-equipped –classrooms
Work Based assessor visits
Discussions
Demonstrations
1:1 and group tutorial sessions
Minimum of 3 GCSE Grade A*-C in English or Welsh, Mathematics and either a Science or Technology based qualification.
You should have achieved a Level 1 or Level 2 post-16 qualification in Construction or have at least one year of life skills gained after compulsory education.
Apprentices must have an employer who can cover the apprenticeship qualification criteria.
This apprenticeship can be completed in 3 years if you hold a Level 2 Core in Construction or Building Services Engineering which are also available via our full and part-time offer.
