This course is for...
…anyone wanting to follow an Apprenticeship programme
…progressing your career in the engineering industry
…developing skills you’ve learnt from other qualifications
…providing evidence towards the underpinning knowledge of the N/SVQ
You’ll need to be numerate, creative and have a keen interest in electrical and electronic engineering, as well as being fully committed to attendance, self-motivated and punctual.
The course itself consists of a range of mandatory and optional units, including:
- Engineering health and safety
- Engineering principles

- Power supply and analogue and digital circuit principles and fault finding
- Maintenance of electrical equipment and systems
- Electronic power control principles and practice
You’ll be assessed through exams, coursework, assignments, practical assessment and portfolio work before being awarded the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering). If you’ve taken advanced mathematics and science as an optional unit within the qualification you could progress to a higher level qualification (e.g. HNC).
You’ll need to already have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and associated skills qualifications.
As part of this course you’ll also develop essential employability skills such as self-management, team working, business awareness and customer awareness, problem-solving, communication, basic literacy and numeracy and a positive attitude to work. You’ll need to provide your own Personal Protective Equipment (steel toe cap boots and fire retardant overalls) and your own stationery and folders.
