This course provides the knowledge and practical skills for a range of job roles in welding and fabrication. It is structured around the level 3 Engineering apprenticeship framework.

For this Diploma, you’ll study five units:
- Health and Safety
- Welding and Fabrication Principles
- Manual metal-arc (MMA) welding
- Manual metal-arc (MMA) welding
- Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process
In addition, you’ll also cover 2 practical NVQ units.
The course is assessed through a range of methods including:
- Practical workshop activities
- Short written tests
- Online multiple-choice exams
You’ll also develop your employability skills and have the opportunity to retake your Maths/English GCSE where appropriate.
The course is designed to lead learners towards an apprenticeship in fabrication and welding.
A suitable level 2 Engineering/welding qualification and GCSE grade A* to C in Maths.
You’ll need Personal Protective Equipment, such as boots and overalls, the cost of which is approximately £40. You’ll also need to supply your own stationery and folders.
