Course Overview

The course runs both as a fulltime mode of study, and a part time option, possibly as part of an apprenticeship.

If you’re looking at progressing into a professional career in construction – such as architecture, planning, building design, project management, quantity surveying, building surveying or CAD technician – this could be the perfect course.

The course covers a wide variety of topics that will allow you to embark upon a career in construction, or progess to University with a recognised qualification.

…anyone wanting a career in the technical disciplines of the construction industry, or looking to to progress their studies on a construction qualification at University

…Students wishing to progress onto apprenticeships or trainees looking to start a technical apprenticeship through their company, or the Welsh Apprenticeship Alliance.

…Those already in the construction industry looking to upskill, or potentially move from the trades to the technical positions, such as building surveying or project management.

Whilst gaining an in-depth knowledge of the industry, you will prepare yourself for a potential career in a range of roles including, but not exclusive to, architecture, planning, civil engineering, building design, project management, quantity surveying, building surveying and CAD technicians.

Coleg Gwent Work Based Learning Apprenticeships are available, and this will also form a natural progression for those apprentices that have already achieved a trade based NVQ.

If you are interested in following a professional career in construction, this is a good progression course for you. The course may include planning, sustainability, designing and working as part of a site or office team. You’ll study core units and optional units, including:

  • Design
  • Construction Principles
  • Surveying
  • Estimating
  • Graphical Detailing

You’ll be involved in ongoing inter-profession projects and practical onsite activities, including topographical and linear surveying, computer aided design (CAD) and graphical drawing techniques.

  • Pearsons BTEC Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment
  • Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry

Due to the variety of students attending this course; your qualifications could include some but not neccessarily all of the following:
