Course Overview
During this course, you’ll gain vocational experience of uniformed public services through presentations, visits, workshops, mentors and work experience.

…You have an interest in working in the public services in a paid of voluntary capacity
…You dream of working in the fire service, police, army or navy.
The course will include the study of public service skills, career planning and improving health and fitness for entry to the uniformed public services. You’ll have the opportunity to take part in activities such as the Duke of Endingburgh, outdoor activities, Army and Fire Service based activities.
There is no final written examination as you’ll achieve your qualification through continuous assessment. This involves carrying out assignments, project work and case studies in which you collect evidence of your competence. On completion, you’ll gain qualifications in:
- BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Preparation for the Public Services
- Princes Trust Level 2 Certificate in Personal Development and Employability Skills
- Skills Activities
- Maths and English (if you haven’t achieved a Grade C or above at GCSE level)
- Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set
To enter the course, you’ll need a minimum of four GCSEs Grade D or above to include either Maths/Maths Numeracy or English/Welsh First language or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area to include either GCSE Maths/Maths Numeracy or English/Welsh First language.
Full commitment to attendance is required, as well as respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.
Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Public Services or employment in the uniformed public services or the outdoor industry.
Minimum of four GCSEs grade D or above to include either Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh first language; or an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area to include either GCSE Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh first language.
You’ll be expected to purchase outdoor and sports kit up to the value of £95, plus £40 for D of E Registration.
