Sixteen hair and beauty
students from Coleg Gwent
have this week won places to compete in the finals of the prestigious UK-wide Association of Hairdressers and Therapists competition in Blackpool.
The hair, beauty and theatrical make-up students showcased their creative skills in categories including Fantasy Total Look, 1980s Make-Up, and Team Bridal.
President of the AHT, Dave Bassett said: “Working under pressure and to a deadline, the competition encourages students to become more competitive with the opportunity to practice their skills against others but also work as a team.”
Coleg Gwent’s Head of School of Creative Industries, Nichola Watkins said: “With 150 further education colleges taking part in the final, it is an excellent opportunity for our students to network and to strive to push their high standards even higher. We are very proud that so many of our students have qualified for the final.”
Coleg Gwent students awarded a first place were Lydia Dowdell, Lori Brady, Kylie Williams and Shannon Trigg. Those gaining a second place were Kathryn Gordan, Alina Mingita, Kyle Chambers, Shannon Trigg, Emily Norvill and Amy Hill. Those receiving a third place were Danika Herapath, Joanne Lee, Jane Cox and Nikki Powell while fourth places went to Zara Ali and Jade Szmaglik.
The competition final will be held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool in March where students from the seven regional heats across the UK will take part.
