What you'll study

Accounting roles are exceptionally diverse and deliver quality career opportunities. This course will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles by giving you a solid foundation in finance administration, covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and using accounting software.

You will study:

  • Bookkeeping transactions
  • Bookkeeping controls
  • Elements of costing
  • Working effectively in finance
  • Synoptic knowledge of all of the above units
  • Using accounting software

What's expected of you

Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, IT skills and understanding of the business environment, all of which are embedded in the Certificate in Accounting.

What qualifications you'll achieve

AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting - Level 2

How you'll be assessed

AAT assessments are practical computer based assessments (CBAs) designed to reflect real life tasks. Five of the units above are assessed through CBAs, with 'working effectively in finance' being assessed through coursework.

What you can do next

Further AAT progression can be gained through the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

There are no formal entry requirements but the following would be useful:

  • Time management
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem solving
