Foundation Degree Graphic Communication

Foundation Degree Graphic Communication

About this course

Businesses need good communication and effective graphic design can play a major part. Successful graphic designers need good business skills, as well as a talent for design, technical understanding and the willingness to work hard. This course will give you the opportunity to explore all aspects of graphic design and communication, and teaches both practical and technical skills. With strong support from experienced tutors, the course can help you get a foot in the door of design and advertising agencies or even to set up your own business.

You will study all aspects of graphic communication including generating ideas, presenting them to clients and managing a project. You will also develop the practical skills that a designer needs, and use them in real life situations through live projects and work placements.

There will be a mix of studio based teaching, technical workshops, tutorials and self directed study. An important element of the second year is a work based placement, enabling you to gain real experience and make valuable industry contacts. Assessment is through group critiques, projects, portfolios of work, presentations, essays and reports.

You could work for a company or on a self employed or freelance basis. Roles may include graphic designer, photographer/film maker, product designer or web designer.
