This is a knowledge based introduction to teaching/training which may be undertaken by people who are not in a teaching role. Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, candidates should be 19 or over and have the ability to manage the requirements of the qualification. This includes being able to read and interpret written tasks, write answers in a legible and understandable format and organise written information clearly and coherently. Candidates must also consider a subject for delivery in which they have experience or subject specialism.
It is aimed at people who work, or want to work, in the education and skills sector or who have just started a teaching/training role. Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to support learning, plan and deliver sessions using appropriate resources and teaching methods, and will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback. The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector.
By the end of the programme, attendees will be able to: - Explain the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training - Demonstrate inclusive teaching and learning approaches - Describe the principles and practise of assessment
This course is normally delivered over six days (36 hours) spread over 7 weeks and 100% attendance is strongly recommended. Course assessment comprises of 8 pieces of written work and the delivery of a micro-teaching session and assessment of 2 colleagues. To achieve the qualification all assessments must be passed and the pass mark for each assessment is 70%. Delegates who successfully complete the assessments are awarded a C & G Level 3 Award in Education and Training and may wish to progress to our NVQ Assessor and Verifier awards, Level 3 in Coaching & Mentoring or consider a PGCE.
