This City & Guilds (C & G) qualification is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Most closely matches what was referred to as the D32/33 or the A1 Award, and is typically undertaken by NVQ assessors.
The qualification provides people who carry out assessment and internal quality assurance roles in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for their roles. They have been developed for those working in accredited learning, nonaccredited learning, the NQF and the QCF.
The qualification consists of one theory unit which assesses a candidate's knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment and one practical unit which assesses a candidate assessor's competence in assessing the occupational competence of others. Primary evidence for the learning outcomes must come from the candidate assessing two real learners on two occasions in a real work environment against approved standards/criteria. These assessments will be observed.
This qualification takes between three and twelve months to complete. Each candidate is allocated a Coleg Gwent assessor who will advise and support them through the qualification ensuring it best meets their current and future development needs. All qualifications are accredited by City & Guilds.
