In a nutshell
This course aims to improve you English language skills to help you take your education to the next level or start a career in hospitality, healthcare, engineering, business or childcare for example.
This course is for...
…anyone who wants to improve their English language skills to open up education or career opportunities.
You’ll need to be self-motivated, hardworking, punctual and committed, and to complete activities and tasks by a given deadline (in class and as homework).
The course will help you develop the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in everyday life and work, both verbally and in writing. As part of the course you'll interpret, analyse, design and write texts, as well as improve vital speaking and listening skills. Coursework will include speaking, listening and presentation assessments which will contribute to 20% of your overall grade.
When you are ready, you can be entered for the GCSE English Language exam with A* to G grades available.
You’ll find a number of courses at college and university, as well as employers, need you to have a grade C in English as there’s a growing demand for higher skilled jobs in the economy. If you have an A*-C grade in English you’re likely to, on average, earn 15% more over your lifetime.
You’ll need GCSE English Language Grade D or successful completion of an English assessment at interview (65% is the pass mark).
