What will I be doing?
In year one, you’ll do two days in college to cover the knowledge side of the course and three days in work placement to cover the competency elements.
In year three, you’ll do three days in college to cover the knowledge element of the course and two days in a work placement (plus block placements where required) to cover and be assessed on the competency elements
You’ll need to undertake a minimum of 700 hours work placement in order to complete this course.
A large part of the assessment takes place in your work placement, but you’re also required to compile a portfolio of evidence from both placement and college. On completion, you’ll achieve:
- Level 3 Children 's Care, Learning and Development
- Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set
What is expected of me?
To enter the course, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to including English/Welsh First Language or an appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit Grade.
You’ll be expected to commit to 5 days of study, which includes both the teaching of the knowledge element of the qualifications in college and work placement days/blocks for the competency element of the qualifications.
Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation and a passion for the care industry. You’ll be continually assessed and be expected to continue your studies and coursework/work placement during your own time.
What comes next?
Higher Education in related areas or employment in roles such as care worker, child minder, nursery nurse, play group assistants, nursery assistants, creche assistants, out of school childcare worker or Cylch Meithrin assistant.
All learners will have to have a satisfactory DBS check
