In a nutshell

The course aims to develop a critical awareness of Politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes in modern Wales and beyond, the structures of authority and power within the political system of Wales and the United Kingdom and how these may differ from those of other political systems, especially that of the United States.

This course is for you if...

... You like to stay on top of Politics
... You want to learn about how political systems work
... You’d like a career in Politics or Government

What will I be doing?

The AS Level is composed of two modules, which focus on Government and Politics of modern Wales and its context within the UK.

  • Unit GP1 People, Politics and Participation
  • Unit GP2 Governing Modern Wales

The A Level is made up of the AS units plus two more units, which are studied at a higher level.

  • Unit GP3a The Politics of the USA
  • Unit GP4a The Government of the USA

You’ll be assessed via externally set examinations. Students are expected to complete internally set formal assessments throughout the year. Upon completion, you’ll achieve:

  • AS Level Government and Politics
  • A Level Government and Politics
  • Skills Activities
  • English and Maths

What is expected of me?

To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English/Welsh First Language and Maths/Maths Numeracy.

It’s important that you have a lively and enquiring mind, as well as an interest in politics and current affairs.
