There are no formal requirements, although learners will need to be a minimum of 16 years of age.

In a nutshell

This course is the perfect starting point for anyone who is looking to gain an insight into sheep husbandry and lambing. It's a busy time of year at Rhadyr Farm, and with our lambing shed full, you'll get hands-on experience working with our flock of lowland sheep and their newborn lambs! Our expert tutors will be on-hand throughout the morning to answer all of your questions.

… You are wanting hands-on experience of working with new-born lambs

What will I be doing?

You’ll gain an insight into the vital preparations for lambing time, housing essentials within the lambing shed and how to prepare yourself and a flock for lambing time. The course will be an introduction to health checking, feeding for a successful lambing season, and the normal parturition process.


You’ll get to bottle feed the lambs and you may even get to see a lamb being born, however we aren’t able to guarantee this.

Additional information

On successful completion, you'll gain a college certificate.


This course takes place on a Saturday morning from 9am - 1pm. You'll require overalls and steel toe capped boots.
