In a nutshell

On this practical course you’ll learn, develop and practise the skills needed to test portable electrical appliances with the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. If you’re already an electrician it adds another string to your bow to help you move up in the industry.

…anyone responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment orundertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment

Course content

There are two parts to the qualification:

  • Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection ET(2377-22) Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – this enables you to undertake practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment
  • Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection ET(2377-32) Level 3 Award in the Management Requirements for the Maintenance of Electrical Equipment – so if you’re responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment you’ll have a better understanding of the practical application of your safety obligations.

After this course, you could choose to move on to the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (2382-12) - 17th Edition, the Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (2394-01) or the Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2395-01).

Entry Requirements

There are no formal requirements, but you should be a practising electrician either involved or looking to be involved in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment (e.g. portable appliances) or managing the inspection and testing process.
