Course content

Apprenticeships involve a mix of learning in the workplace and college training, giving you the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work environment.

You'll be assessed through coursework, tests, assignments, work-based observations and work-based evidence, and as you progress through the course you’ll achieve a number of qualifications as part of the Level 3 Apprenticeship Framework:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma
  • Level 3 Diploma
  • Essential Skills Qualification Communication
  • Essential Skills Qualification Application of Number
  • Essential Skills Qualification Digital Literacy
  • Wider Key Skills Qualifications
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

On completion, we expect you to be able to carry out your electrical engineering role confidently and competently to the standard set by the Industry. Apprentices completing the Level 3 programme can also progress on to university.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for this course, you’ll need GCSE at grade C in English or Welsh Language and a B in Maths, along with three other grade Cs (preferably Science or related subjects) or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with a Merit profile. You must be employed in the electrical engineering industry, be paid at least the national minimum apprenticeship wage and have a Contract of Employment. Your employer must also pass the necessary Health and Safety vetting.
