EAL Diploma in Welding and Fabrication Level 1
In a nutshell
This is a practical course which offers an excellent introduction to welding and fabrication. You will develop the skills and knowledge required to work in the welding industry.
It is designed to lead directly into the level 2 diploma in Welding and Fabrication, or an apprenticeship.

What will I be doing?
You will cover a range of units including:
- TIG welding
- MIG/MAG welding
- Arc Welding
- Cutting, forming and assembling engineering materials
- Maths and Science
- Working in Engineering
The course is assessed through a range of methods including:
Practical workshop activities
Short written tests
On line multiple choice exams
You will also study Maths, English and Employability skills.
If you do not already have a grade C or above in either Maths or English you will have an opportunity to retake these.
What is expected of me?
To enrol on the course you will need 4 GCSEs grade A* to E including Maths and English (or Welsh as a first language)
Full commitment to attendance is required, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You should also have a strong desire to work in the engineering industry, abide by the college ethos and be willing to participate in improving your level of academic subjects.
What comes next?
This course is designed for progression to a Level 2 Diploma in Fabrication and Welding.
It may also lead to a welding/fabrication apprenticeship.
You’ll need Personal Protective Equipment, such as boots and overalls, the cost of which is approximately £40. You’ll also need to supply your own stationery and folders.
