In a nutshell

This course provides an intermediate knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic engineering. It covers knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to a wide variety of careers and study routes and take a hands-on approach to basic engineering training.

What will I be doing?

You will study six units:

  • Engineering environment awareness

  • Engineering techniques

  • Engineering mathematics and science principles

  • Electrical and electronic principles

  • Electrical and electronic testing methods

  • Electrical and electronic systems and devices

The course is assessed through a range of methods including

  • Practical workshop activities

  • Short written tests

  • On line multiple choice exam

You will also develop your employability skills and have the opportunity to retake Maths/English GCSE where appropriate

What is expected of me?

To enrol on thiscourse you will need either:

  • 4 GCSEs grade D or above, to include Maths and English (or Welsh as a first language); or

  • A suitable level 1 diploma and GCSE grade D or above in Maths and English (or Welsh as a first language)

Full commitment to attendance is required, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You should also have a strong desire to work in the engineering industry, abide by the college ethos and be willing to participate in improving your level of academic subjects.
