In a nutshell

This course is the perfect starting point if you're a dog enthusiast looking to develop skills to groom your own dog or wondering if a career in dog grooming is for you.

This course is for...

... dog owners passionate about grooming their pets

... pet lovers keen to develop skills to groom their own or other's dogs

... those considering or wanting to start a career in the dog grooming industry

Course content

This five week practical based course will give you an insight into the basics of dog grooming. You will develop a variety of practical skills including how to correctly wash, dry and brush dogs using appropriate grooming equipment, how to correctly cut dog's nails and basic coat maintenance and trimming.

You'll be expected to participate in practical group sessions and on completion will recieve a Coleg Gwent certificate.

Please note that dogs are not provided for the course so you must be able to bring a dog along to practical sessions.

On completion you could take one of our other canine courses or progress onto alternative part-time courses, or even a full-time college course to further expand your knowledge.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements you should have a keen interest in dogs and dog grooming, and be able to bring your own dog to practical grooming sessions.

Learners should be at least 16 years of age and we recommend you have an up-to-date Tetanus vaccination.

Additional information

This course is taught by one of our qualified dog groomers and runs on a Tuesday, 5pm – 9pm, for a period of 5 weeks.

Please note, this course is delivered off-site at Classic Canine Cuts, Blackwood and learners are expected to make their own way to the salon.

Payment Information

Due to current limitations, payment can only be made via bank transfer.

An invoice will be sent from salesledger@coleggwent.ac.uk within 72 hours with instructions on how to pay or set up payment instalments if required.
