What will I be doing?
You’ll learn about client consultations, reception skills, shampooing, blow drying, setting, the art of dressing hair, hair up, cutting, colouring hair and creating a total look. There will be an expectation that you attend a work placement during the academic year.
The course is delivered through:
- Theory classes
- Practical workshops
- Real salon environments at the college
- Commercial sessions
- Role play exercises
- Group work
- Work placement
This course is designed for people with a career interest in hairdressing and is a progression from the Level 1 hairdressing course.
You’ll be assess through practical and written assignments, observations, demonstrations and multiple choice tests covering the underpinning knowledge. Once complete, you’ll gain:
What is expected of me?
To enrol on the course, you’ll need a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above to include Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh First Language, you will need to successfully pass the Level 1 Hairdressing assessments before progressing to Level 2 Hairdressing.
Due to the intensive nature of this programme you’ll need to be self-motivated, hardworking, have a friendly personality and a high level of personal presentation.
There will be an expectation that you attend a work placement during the academic year. You’ll need to promote college salons and services to attract additional clients to assist with your assessment process. All delivery takes place on campus and there will be one evening a week when you’ll be in college until late.
Attendance and punctuality for all sessions is a major requirement of this course.
There will be an assessment point during the year where you’ll need to demonstrate a pass standard at level 1 in order to then progress with the level 2. It is critical that you complete assessments to schedule and complete homework issued.
What comes next?
Level 3 in hairdressing or employment.
Code of dress:
- Tunic with black trousers and black shoes must be worn in salons
- Hair must be neatly tied back off the face
- Nail extensions and varnish must not be worn
- No piercings or jewellery: only a wedding ring is allowed to be worn in the salon
You’ll be expected to purchase a uniform and a standard hairdressing kit as a condition of your place on the course. The cost of this is approximately £300.
