In a nutshell
A Personal Learning Account is a new initiative from the Welsh Government. It is a free and flexible way to learn. The initiative will offer people the chance to access free, part-time courses that offer flexible and convenient learning around their existing lifestyle.
This is the final academic stage towards becoming a qualified legal executive. Completion of the qualification will enable you to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).

...anyone over 19, living in Wales, in employment and earning less than £26,000 a year
...you if you’re studying the final stages towards being a qualified legal executive
...law graduates
...those who want to work for an employer such as the Crown Prosecution Service.
Course content
To achieve this qualification, you must attain six units from the following criteria:
- Three law modules
- One linked practice module
- Two skills modules (Client Care and Legal Research)
Law modules:
- Contract law
- Criminal law
- Family law
- Employment law
- Equity and trusts
- European Union law
- Land law
- Civil law
- Civil litigation
- Criminal litigation
- Family practice
- Landlord and tenant law
- Law of wills and succession
- Client care skills*
- Legal research*
*Modules are examined, either in January and/or June.
Assessment:
Client care skills and legal research skills modules are assessed by portfolio.
Entry Requirements
To enter this course, you'll need to have completed the CILEx Professional Diploma in Law and Practice (Level 3) or a qualifying Law degree (2:2 minimum) and subject to an interview.
Law graduates are not required to study the academic units of Level 6, only the practice and professional elements of the qualification.
Additional information
After completion, you can gain employment in solicitors' offices, legal departments of commercial organisations, local and central government, utility companies or the Crown Prosecution Service.
It is possible to qualify as a solicitor through the CILEx route.
